From 10G to 800G: An Unexpected Journey
Things were simpler in the days of 10G transmission. Modulation schemes were blinking lights (OOK), transceivers used LC-duplex connectors, and the only decision that needed to be made was short-reach or long-reach transceivers.
Fast-forward to 400G and 800G and the options have exploded. The concept of lanes, multi-fiber bundles, MPO and CS connectors, and multiple wavelengths per transceiver, have crept into the offerings. This slideshow will review the options, the costs and the current state of these devices.
